Southampton Hospitals Charity
Being the dedicated hospital charity at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), we fund vital life-saving equipment to help our patients, fund pioneering research and improve outcomes to give our patients the best care and experience possible.
But we know we need to do more, and we can’t do this without your help.
That’s why we’re thrilled to bring a spectacular art installation to Southampton and Cowes for 2024, to raise vital funds for our Children’s Hospital – one of the top three paediatric centres across the country.
We care for babies, children, and young people right across the south of England as well as the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands to provide 27 different specialist services on site including children’s heart surgery, neurological, cancer, trauma, and intensive care, making Southampton Children’s Hospital a very special and unique place.
Together, we can make a difference.

“I genuinely believe that if it wasn’t for the expertise of the PICU team that Lila wouldn’t be with us today. They were quick to react to any changes in her condition. The team give one-on-one care and observe your child constantly.” – Lila’s mum, Abbie
When Lila was four weeks old, she had suspected Viral Meningitis and was sedated and intubated in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton Children’s Hospital.
After two days, she seemed to stabilise and together with the consultant, we decided to wake her up and remove the breathing tubes.
Unfortunately, as soon as she woke, Lila started to have a seizure, so she had to be re-sedated. Results confirmed that the virus had spread to her spinal fluid and an emergency MRI scan was carried out. The scan showed that Lila had swelling on the brain and had damage due to an unexpected stroke.
The following day, she had an ECG; that revealed Lila was having constant aggressive seizures and her medication was changed.
While doing observations, a nurse noticed Lila’s eyes rolling and another MRI was carried out. The results showed that Lila had another 4/5 strokes. The consultant sat with us and explained what this meant for Lila moving forward.
Thankfully from then on, Lila’s condition got better. After eight days in the PICU, she was woken up and her tubes were removed. After nine days, her care was downgraded, and she was sent to a ward to fully recover.
